The Rescue of Major Gerald J. "Jerry" Lawrence, U.S. Air Force Retired, in Laos during the Vietnam War

These screen grabs are from the 20 August 1972 rescue of Captain Gerald Lawrence. After flying numerous "Arc light" missions over Vietnam in 1968 and 1969 he returned to the United States assigned to flying transports from Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth. He was later assigned to his second tour in Vietnam to pilot QU22 reconnaissance aircraft and was shot down over the Ho Chi Minh Trail in August of 1972. He managed to evade capture until being rescued and returned to his unit to continue flying KC135's.

Major Gerald J. "Jerry" Lawrence passed away 28 July 2012 at 69. May you RIP hero.

Scale Model After-Market resin detail sets for Helicopters

Cobra Company (out of business) 1/35 UH-1B backdate set for the MRC 1/35 UH-1C Huey Hog. The blades were based off the Seminar UH-1B gunship but are the incorrect chord width. Still the set offered a lot of corrections including the early unarmored seats, rotor blade counterweights, correct fuel filler cap, correct shape tail fin, correct narrow chord sync elevators, etc.

Lone Star Models purchased all the masters from Chris at Cobra Company and has released this set now under his company name. Excellent service and turn around time from order to getting them in the mail. Thanks Mike!

Seminar 1/35 UH-1B. This kit features the correct 204 rotor head and early Bell Mouth intake, correct smaller chord sync elevators, correct non-cambered tail fin with single light, and FM antennae for the nose.

The armament subsystem however should me the M16 quad M60 machine guns with flex chutes and early 7 shot pods if you are modeling an early UH-1B.

Cobra Company made a correction set for the flex guns but I have not seen in offered again.

Cobra Company also made an update set for the MH-60M DUSTOFF however this is particularly difficult to find. As such in order to get a correct set of updated rotor blades you have add a narrow 1mm strip to the rotor blade chord, sweep the rotors blades downward camber them, and add another trim tab.

Pictured below is my sister's unit in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan when she was serving in the 82nd CAB as a Senior Flight Medic.Great detail particularly the rotor blades on a Mike model Dust-Off Blackhawk.
